Case Review

Original writing · hindsight review · anchored in known history, viewed through chart structure

A Jia Yin (甲寅) Day Master: Jia Wood sits on its prosperous root, with a deep foundation. Looking back on Tu Youyou — drawing from the line “a handful of qinghao” in the Handbook of Prescriptions for Emergencies the idea of low-temperature ether extraction, and finally isolating artemisinin after more than a hundred failures: the Seven Killings in the year pillar signifies the power to break with convention, and the Indirect Wealth in the month pillar signifies practical, inspired flexibility. This reflects that structure.

The Five Phases are relatively balanced and Jia Wood keeps to the upright path; her calm on receiving the Nobel Prize at 85 and continuing her research may be read here.

This is a cultural retrospective at the level of three pillars, not a fatalistic judgment.
