Case Review

Original writing · hindsight review · anchored in known history, viewed through chart structure

Bing (丙) Fire is the fire of the sun, signifying blazing heat; the year and month pillars reveal Direct Officer and Direct Resource, and all Five Phases are present. Looking back on The Starry Night and Sunflowers — painting in colours that seem to burn — it reflects the fierce intensity of Bing Fire; Wood generating Fire (Yi Mao 乙卯 as Direct Resource) may be read in his brother Theo's lifelong support.

Water checks Fire (Gui 癸 Water as Direct Officer), and Metal as Wealth (Shen 申 Metal) is weak. Selling only one painting in his lifetime, beset by mental illness, and dying by suicide at thirty-seven, his life can be observed in hindsight through the structure “Water quenching Fire, Wealth hard to gather” — one of art history's great tragedies. Yet the light of Bing Fire was finally seen, a gloss on a sun that rose late.

This is a retrospective cross-cultural comparison, not a definitive claim.
