Case Review

Original writing · hindsight review · anchored in known history, viewed through chart structure

The Yi Hai (乙亥) day pillar, with Water and Wood generating each other, suggests a gentle, warm temperament. Looking back on Deng Jiaxian working in anonymity for 28 years on nuclear weapons, his story made public only after his death: the Direct Officer in the month pillar signifies duty and steadfastness, and the Rob Wealth in the year pillar signifies setting aside the self for a greater cause. “Doing earth-shaking work while remaining unknown” reflects this structure.

Strong Water generates Wood, and Wood signifies benevolence; the record of him continuing to work while gravely ill echoes the Direct Officer's sense of duty. Chen-Ning Yang described him as one who “gave his all until his last breath” — this may be read here.

This is a cultural retrospective at the level of three pillars, not a fatalistic judgment.
