What is Sheng Men?
Sheng Men is one of the Eight Doors of Qi Men Dun Jia — the "Human Plate" that flies across the nine palaces, joined with the Heaven Plate's nine stars and the Earth Plate's nine palaces to complete a chart. Sheng Men sits in the Gen palace and belongs to Earth. Together with Kai Men and Xiu Men it forms the three most-used doors, the ones traditional practice mentions most often.
The old verse "when you meet the doors Kai, Xiu, or Sheng among the eight, all matters met with them turn out as wished" groups Sheng with the Open and Rest doors. Sheng's imagery follows the character Sheng: sprouting, vitality, growth — questions are read from the angle of gestation and development, each with its own emphasis against the Rest Door's settled calm. Think of nurturing an investment or growing a new venture.
In practice, noting which palace Sheng Men has landed in — and which door serves as Duty Messenger — is a key step; combine the landed palace with stars, spirits, and formations. A full Qi Men chart shows all of this at a glance. Door imagery belongs to traditional culture: take its symbolic structure and cultural meaning, and do not get stuck on the literal word.
