What is the Tian Fu star?
The Tian Fu star is one of the fourteen major stars of Zi Wei Dou Shu, the commanding first star of the Southern Dipper. The star system divides into Dipper and Southern Dipper groups: Zi Wei heads the Dipper, Tian Fu heads the Southern Dipper — one north, one south, hailed as the "Emperor Star" and the "Storehouse Star," with Tian Fu second only to Zi Wei in a chart. Whether the two share a palace, face each other, or stand apart is an important thread in any reading.
The Questions and Answers on the Stars says of Tian Fu: Tian Fu belongs to Earth; it is the first star that commands the Southern Dipper, lord and keeper of the Wealth palace, governing fortune and authority in the Dipper — meeting auspicious stars it becomes the foundation of wealth and honor, and is judged in the manner of Wen Chang. Traditionally Tian Fu is tied to keeping, steadiness, and reserve — the "Storehouse Star" name says it all. See the Classical sources section below for the original passage.
Noting which palace Tian Fu lands in, and whether it shares a palace with Zi Wei or faces it, is a key step in Zi Wei Dou Shu reading; its palace is traditionally read together with the Property and Wealth palaces. A full Zi Wei chart lays out the stars and palaces at a glance. This page covers only the star's basic meaning and its source, and makes no predictions.
