What Is Direct Wealth
The Ten Gods are the ten names given to every stem and branch in a chart based on two things: how it relates to the Day Master through the Five Elements' Generating and Controlling cycles, and whether its Yin/Yang polarity matches the Day Master's. If the Day Master is the "you" at the center of the chart, the Ten Gods are the ten stock characters in its drama — roughly like how planets take on roles such as the teacher, the challenger, or the provider in Western astrology, except here each role is derived purely from element relationships and polarity.
Direct Wealth (Zheng Cai) is the role defined by one rule: the Day Master controls it, with the opposite Yin/Yang polarity. For example, a Jia (Yang Wood) Day Master controls Earth, and Ji (Yin Earth) has the opposite polarity to Jia — so a Jia Day Master seeing Ji is Direct Wealth. Likewise Yi seeing Wu, Bing seeing Xin, and so on. For Earthly Branches, the judgment goes by the branch's primary Hidden Stem: a Jia Day Master seeing Chou or Wei counts, because both branches' primary Hidden Stem is Ji.
The *Zi Ping Zhen Quan* chapter *Lun Gong Fen Yong Shen Pei Liu Qin* (On Palaces, Useful Gods, and the Six Relations) says: "Direct Wealth is the wife, under my control" — in the traditional family-role scheme, a man's chart reads the wife through Direct Wealth, a direct projection of the "I control" relationship. Its chapter *Lun Cai* (On Wealth) adds: "Wealth likes deep roots; it should not be overly exposed" — tradition holds that the Wealth star should sit rooted in the branches rather than sticking out bare on top of the stems. By extension, Direct Wealth is linked to steady income, pragmatism, cherishing what one has, and living within one's means; in temperament, the traditional lore leans toward steadiness, trustworthiness, thrift, and a down-to-earth outlook.
The difference between the two Wealths is polarity: "I control it, opposite polarity" is Direct Wealth; "I control it, same polarity" is Indirect Wealth. Both are wealth under the Day Master's control — tradition pictures Direct Wealth as money earned by the proper road, Indirect Wealth as money open to the crowd — but remember these are imagery, not definitions. The Ten Gods Analyzer tool on this site lists each pillar's Ten God under the given Day Master. This page makes no predictions.
