Seasonal Regulation: The Chart's Air Conditioner

In a Nutshell

Seasonal Regulation reads a chart's "temperature and humidity": too cold, warm it with Fire; too hot, cool it with Water — like fitting the chart with an air conditioner, aiming for comfort.

The principle: the Five Elements have seasons

Elemental energy rises and falls with the seasons: Wood thrives in spring, Fire in summer, Metal in autumn, Water in winter; Earth thrives at each season's turn. Born in high summer: blazing Fire, parched Earth. Born in deep winter: cold Water, chilled Metal. A chart stuck too cold or too hot "feels" wrong — effort meets friction.

The Di Tian Sui says: "Heaven has its cold and warmth" (Di Tian Sui · Tian Dao, "The Way of Heaven" chapter) — heaven has cold and warmth, and the human body receives them; neither may go to extremes. Seasonal Regulation grows from exactly this thinking.

Examples

  • Bing Fire born in a Zi month (deep winter): Water strong, Fire weak, cold closing in. First warm the chart with Wood and Fire — Wood generates Fire, Fire warms the self; with warmth in the chart, effort finds its drive.
  • Ren Water born in a Wu month (high summer): Fire strong, Water weak, parched and overheated. Cool and moisten with Metal and Water — Metal generates Water, Water adjusts the climate, bringing the chart's temperature down.

Notice: the "medicine" Seasonal Regulation prescribes isn't always the one strength-balancing prescribes — but the goal is the same: make the chart comfortable.

Seasonal Regulation vs. strength balancing

Sometimes they agree: a weak Day Master born in winter may find the Seal (support) and the warming remedy are both Fire — one medicine, two cures. Sometimes they seem to "argue" but actually work different layers: balancing handles *strength*, climate handles *temperature*. At the beginner level, knowing the layers exist is enough; the trade-offs belong to full analysis.

A reminder

Seasonal Regulation is the "comfort" dimension — one layer of chart analysis, not the whole. A well-adjusted chart feels smooth in action; but whether things get done still depends on structure, Useful God, and Luck Pillars working together.

MoZhu tip

To judge climate, start with the birth season: in summer ask "is it hot?", in winter ask "is it cold?" It's the most direct doorway into Seasonal Regulation — and a modern echo of the ancients' sky-watching wisdom.
