What is the Death Star?
The Death Star (Wang Shen) is a concept in the BaZi Symbolic Star system, found from the year or day branch. It is read by Three Harmony combination, taking each combination's Arrival (lín guān) position: the Yin, Wu, Xu Fire combination's Arrival is Si; the Hai, Mao, Wei Wood combination's Arrival is Yin; the Si, You, Chou Metal combination's Arrival is Shen; the Shen, Zi, Chen Water combination's Arrival is Hai. For example, if your year or day branch is Yin, Wu, or Xu, and another branch holds Si, you carry the Death Star. This finding rule comes from traditional destiny literature.
On its face, "wang" carries the sense of loss and dissipation, and the traditional image has the Death Star governing things lost or leaking away — like valuables dropped on a journey or a granary slowly emptied. This framing of an ancient worldview applies to every Symbolic Star entry: the Death Star is only a symbol inside the system, and its meaning must be read inside the whole structure of a particular chart, never by the literal word alone. Learn the Three Harmony groups and their branch relationships first, then the star's finding rule and image — not the other way around.
In traditional reading order, Symbolic Stars come after the stems and branches, the Five Elements, and the Ten Gods, as an auxiliary reference. The Death Star is usually discussed together with the Calamity Star: their finding rules are close, their images related, and the classics treat them side by side.
The Symbolic Stars are part of traditional Chinese destiny culture; modern study takes them mostly for their folk and literary value. This page is an introduction to traditional cultural knowledge — the Death Star's finding rule and image — and is not a basis for judging any real matter.

"The Robbing Sha is at an element's place of Extinction; the Lost Spirit is at its place of Official Post. Both fall on Yin, Shen, Si and Hai."
Plain words: The Lost Spirit (Wang Shen) sits at the Official Post branch of the year's element group, always one of Yin, Shen, Si, Hai.

"Water feeds Wood: Shen-Zi-Chen takes Hai as the Lost Spirit, for the Jia Wood in Hai drains Water. Fire feeds Earth: Yin-Wu-Xu takes Si as the Lost Spirit, for the Wu Earth in Si drains Fire."
Plain words: Shen-Zi-Chen meets Hai, Yin-Wu-Xu meets Si; by the same logic Si-You-Chou meets Shen and Hai-Mao-Wei meets Yin.
